I dare you to try something new

Have you noticed that the hate in our country is rising? Are you sick of all the arguing and fighting? Does it feel like there is no way out? How about in your own life, is it falling apart? Are there problems that you do not know how to fix?

It is so easy to look at our current situation and immediately lose hope. Especially if you keep up with the news. If you do, then you would have noticed that in the past few years, crimes, murders, and all other sorts of corruption are drastically increasing. It puts into perspective the current situation of our country. It seems as if everything is falling apart.

It has come to the point where people are picking sides and dividing our country. I mean if you paid attention to the latest headline in Charlotte, VA, then you see what I’m talking about. Everyone is so upset over these different things that this country is ripping apart at the seams.

When a situation like this arises, you will notice that our leaders, will swing it and blame it on something. Whatever the situation it is, they then will twist it to their agenda, and nothing ever gets solved. This causes civil unrest and just increases the problem. Why else do you think there is one after another?

So, what is causing these problems? If you look at the news in the past few years, you will see that most terrorist attacks and mass killings in our country, were caused by U.S citizens. Each one did these heinous acts for different reasons, but I believe all of them had the same problem. What I mean by this, is that though their initial reasons might have differed, the root of why they did what they did is the same.

Let’s look at two examples.

Does everyone remember the columbine shooting in 1998? What happened was two students shot up the school, killing 13 people, and then took their own lives. Then if you look last year at the nightclub shooting in Florida, you see a man going into a nightclub and killed 49 people. Now, these situations were both for different reasons, but the root of what caused it is the same.

If you look at the columbine shooting, you will notice that the kids had a lot of hate for the school and for the other students. That was caused mostly from bullying and other factors, but nonetheless they started forming hatred for people. Also, they devalued the life of others. You will see the same thing mirrored in just about every terrorist attack, including the one that happened in Florida.

So, what is causing these attacks to increase over the years? I think it leads to those two facts that I mentioned above. Firstly, for one reason or another they hate people. This is one of the keys to understanding the problem. So, why do they hate people so much, and why is hate growing in this society? It could be from all the corruption, how mean people are to each other, from many other different reasons. The main reason though that people hate others, is due to a lack of love. If those two kids were shown love and learned how to love, do you think they would have done what they did? Since we know that hate is growing in this world, then we need to combat it with the only thing that is stronger. We need to pick up our efforts and start showing people the love and compassion that Christ mirrored for us. Otherwise, this hate will just increase.

The second reason we noted was due to the devaluing of human life. I blame this on our educational system. In High school, we are taught that human life came from some random occurrence, coincidentally. We are taught that there is no real rhyme or reason why we exist, that it just happened. We are then taught that we evolved from other species and that we are mere animals that formed, because that’s what the universe wanted. The basis of evolution tells us that we are just some giant coincidence and there is no real purpose for our lives at all. This basically tells everyone that our lives are no more important than the life of a gold fish. This teaches students that life is meaningless and it is not that important. Which causes people that hate others, to justify killing. If you are taught your whole life that you were born, for no reason whatsoever and that your life is ultimately meaningless, then it is very easy to understand why human life is not highly valued by certain people.

This is not the only problem that this teaching causes. The other issue, is that it removes any point for morals. Think about this, if evolution is factual, like they teach, then ultimately it doesn’t matter what we do since there is no point to this world anyway. It is the best cop-out and excuse to do whatever you want with no consequences. If you ever watched the movie the purge, then this is basically the same concept. Our society basically promotes do whatever you want, if it makes you happy because it doesn’t matter anyway. Now even atheists and evolutionists believe in morals, and honestly I am not sure why. However, if evolution is true then there is no point to be moral, because ultimately we just live and die and that’s it. It is a very convenient philosophy for those who are selfish and want to live their life based on their own terms.

This leads to the root of the problem. Yes, I know hate, and devaluing human life is part of the problem, but it’s not the whole problem. The fact that I mentioned above is the real problem, the people of this world are so into their selves that anything that doesn’t sound good to them, is ignored or argued against. The selfishness and pride of the people, causes the hatred and all the other issues. If people weren’t so selfish and prideful, I bet you we wouldn’t have terrorist attacks.

Even though we can understand the root of the problem, is there a way to solve it?

From looking at our current situation, it looks like all the methods that we tried have not worked. We put our hopes in a new president thinking they will fix our problems, and then we get disappointed. So, then we put our hopes in the next guy, or we take matters into our own hands, and these terrorist attacks and vicious protests happen. So, is there a way to fix what’s going on?

Before I continue I want you to clear your mind and open it to a new way. I challenge you, nay I dare you, to listen.

We all should be able to agree that what we have currently tried, has not worked. So, let’s try a different approach. So, how do we combat the hate, selfishness, pride, and all the other issues in this world? I say it’s simple, but hard. I say we put our trust in someone that we know that does not change and get swayed by this world. I say we take a step, we do something crazy and unthinkable. Let’s trust someone who showed the world what true love is all about. Who was willing to be tortured, beaten, disgraced, and killed, to show us what love is all about. Let’s follow His example.

I know there are a lot of people in the world and even people who might be reading this, that think God is not real. That think evolution is fact, and that hate anything to do with the mention of God. Trust me I understand the hesitation; I understand that it is a crazy idea to follow someone who you can’t physically see. But I dare you to give Him a shot. All other methods obviously have not been working, so what do you have to lose?

Every single one of us, whether you are a Christian, atheist, Muslim, or you follow something else, are tasked with the consequences of this world. We must all live with the consequences of our decisions. I dare you to trust the one who gave your life. Take it from a man who was completely changed. All it takes is one decision, that will change your life. If you’re sick of the mistakes, sick of the hatefulness in your heart, if you’re sick of the pain that this world offers, then there is freedom from all of that. However, you must reach out and grab it.

I know for me I felt completely at a loss. I felt that everything I did was wrong and nothing I did was right. I seemed to continue to hurt myself. I tried so many different things, but nothing eased the pain. I gave up my pride, and I bowed down, and I gave it to God for real. I didn’t want to at first, I didn’t want Him to come into my life, it’s hard to give up control. However, after I did the peace that I received was so unimaginable, that it’s hard to explain. That peace that only God can give is a free gift, you simply just ask for it.

So, whatever you’re going through in your life, there is a way out. It doesn’t matter what you have done, where you have been. There is freedom, but you must take that first step, one step at a time. It’s scary, it makes no logical sense, but the results are real. If you knew me before I was saved, you would have thought I would never care about others. Then God got ahold of my selfish self, and changed me into a man that loves people. That wants to just help them, and show them a little piece of the love that God has for each one of us.

So, what’s stopping you? Let’s do something crazy, and trust in someone higher than ourselves.

I bet you if those that caused all this grief and pain with these terrorist attacks, would of took the free gift that God offers, then they never would have done what they did. Remember those people were just babies like you and me, who grew up in this broken world and allowed the pain to consume them. Instead of giving into the pain and sorrows of this world, lets overcome it, by trusting in the One that conquered death over 2,000 years ago!

Pray with me,

Jesus Christ,

I know I have messed up in my life. I have sinned, and that has created a barrier between you and me. I need your forgiveness. I know I can’t do it on my own. I want to turn away from everything that I know is wrong. Right now, I choose to trust in you. I choose to accept your free gift of eternal life, and I believe that your sacrificial death freed me from this sin-baggage I have carried for so long. Please come into my life, renew me, love me, and stay with me forever.

Thank you, Jesus. Amen.”
